The vision of Mentisano to aspire to live out our ministry of healing and caring to fulfill the need for quality services offered in an accepting and loving environment. We seek to provide an ever widening and enriched continuum of high-quality services. We commit ourselves to the principles of acceptance and love thereby enabling us to carry out God’s work with integrity and compassion.

At Mentisano we aspire to empower individuals to become healthy by proactively working with them to:

Recognize the areas of their lives they are not satisfied with and provide education and therapeutic resources to begin their journey of change.

This goal will be achieved by utilizing:

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness – an assessment tool designed to help clients determine what areas of their lives they perceive dissatisfaction.

Chronic Care Model – this model establishes a partnership between providers and community-based populations; partnerships that commit to patient education and health by a well-informed practice team with varied knowledge, health modalities and common patient goals for mind, body and spirit health.

Community – provide respect, support, acceptance, hope, compassion and unity so clients can work towards goals in an environment that helps them thrive through partnerships with existing community services and services provided on campus.

Mentisano is an Italian word meaning Whole Mind. At Mentisano we believe being healthy encompasses Mind, Body and Spirit. Much like a three-legged stool cannot remain upright without all three legs intact, individuals cannot experience Whole Health without finding satisfaction in Mind, Body and Spirit.

Angela Sheehan, CEO of Mentisano

Later, after receiving a Clinical Nurse Specialist degree she worked as a Clinical Nurse Educator and the Director of Faith Community Nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, New York. She received her nursing degree from Maria College and Master of Nursing from Sage Graduate School, both in Albany, New York. She worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner at Albany Medical Center for two years, before joining Mentisano. Her experience includes a wide spectrum of mental health diagnoses. Particular areas of interest include the treatment of trauma using cognitive processing therapy, ADHD management using behavioral techniques, and dissociative identity disorder.  Clients from all faiths and beliefs are welcomed. Carole is a Christian, trained in Christian and Theophostic Counseling

Katie Aery, Peer Advocate Specialist

Katie Aery is fulfilling a brand-new role at Mentisano. Her title is Peer Advocate Specialist. What does that mean? It means that Katie is a peer who has had a lived experience with mental illness and is now acting as an advocate for folks being treated at Mentisano. She will come alongside anyone interested in developing skills to obtain a more satisfactory life in any of the 8 Dimensions of Health. Upon meeting with Katie, she will have you fill out the 8 Dimensions of Health assessment and together develop a plan on how to reach a higher level of satisfaction in the dimension of health chosen.
